Editorial Review

The Q3 Max is Keychron's Max-series refinement of the Q3 — same TKL layout and gasket-mount aluminum case as the original wired Q3, but rebuilt around the newer QMK/VIA-compatible wireless module that debuted across the Max lineup. The physical rotary knob remains, mapped by default to volume but fully remappable in VIA.

Build quality is consistent with the rest of the Q-series: a dense, double-gasket-mounted aluminum shell with a weighted, thocky bottom-out that punches well above the $219 price point. The connection toggle switches cleanly between Bluetooth (up to 3 paired devices), 2.4GHz via the included dongle, and wired USB-C.

The main reason to pick the Q3 Max over the Q1 Pro is the physical knob and the slightly more traditional TKL proportions rather than the Q1 Pro's marginally taller wireless-battery case. Both share the same PCB generation and wireless reliability, so the choice mostly comes down to whether a physical control knob matters to your workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the knob on the Q3 Max do by default?
It's mapped to system volume out of the box, but like every key on the board it can be fully remapped in VIA to control media, RGB brightness, or a custom macro.
Can the Q3 Max connect to multiple devices?
Yes, via Bluetooth it pairs with up to 3 devices and switches between them with a dedicated key combo, in addition to 2.4GHz dongle and wired modes.
Is the Q3 Max the same case as the wired Q3?
The case design and gasket mount are carried over from the original wired Q3, with the Max-series wireless PCB and battery integrated into the same shell.
