Editorial Review
The Gateron Melodic, nicknamed "Naevy" by the community after the color of its stem, occupies a specific gap in Gateron's lineup: a mid-weight linear at 45g with factory lubing and a Nylon housing that delivers a smooth, medium-pitched clack without requiring any preparation. It sits between the ultra-light Yellow and the heavier Ink series, offering a balanced weight for users who find 35g too light but Ink prices too steep.
Factory lubing on the Melodic is more consistently applied than on standard Gateron switches. The coverage is lighter than a hand-lube session but sufficient to eliminate most of the scratchiness present on unlubed Gaterons. Out of the bag, these are pleasantly smooth — suitable for immediate installation in a daily driver board without guilt.
Sound profile is a smooth, medium-pitched clack that blends well in most boards. The Nylon housing does not produce the deep thock of POM switches, but it also avoids the higher-pitched brightness of PC housings. The result is a versatile, inoffensive sound that disappears into the background rather than demanding attention — which is exactly right for a daily typing switch.
At 45g actuation and 58g bottom-out, the force spread is moderate. Typists who bottom out get a clear tactile endpoint without the abruptness of a heavier switch. Gamers who prefer medium-weight linears will find the actuation force similar to Cherry MX Reds but with smoother travel due to Gateron's tighter tolerances.
Additional lubing with 205g0 does improve Melodics noticeably, as with all Gateron switches. The factory lube provides a useful head start, and topping it up with a hand-lube session takes these from "good budget linear" to "competitive mid-tier linear." Films help with stem wobble as well. But even stock, the Melodic represents solid value in Gateron's expanding lineup.
